While some people prefer their living space to be large and spacious, there
are others who prefer tiny and cozy. Are you one of those who think that tiny
and cozy is what you are looking for? Do you think you could wrap your life around
super tiny spaces and make a warm residence out of some place other people
would think of as a closet? If you think youd like to but are not sure where
to start, here are a few ideas that will help make that small yet warm living space
seem bigger and stylish. Create Area with Area Rugs Your small living space has a small amount of floor space. You will want to make something spectacular out of the part of your floor that isnt covered with furniture. The bit of floor space under your coffee table can be accented by a braided area rug. Not only does this add color but it also adds texture to what would otherwise be just a bit of bare flooring. Putting a bamboo area rug on the floor in your kitchen allows for warm feet in the morning and warmth of style in an otherwise cold room. Area rugs are affordable if you look in the right places and can really add some comfy space to your tiny place. Hang Em High Its surprising how much style and space you can add with the right kind of shelving. If your walls are dark in color, adding a set of white or light colored shelves will create an exciting contrast. The shelves can be home to a variety of knick-knacks including decorative candles, family portraits or even small indoor bonsai plants. Shelves add space up off the floor, which allows you a little more freedom of movement in your cramped castle. Keep it Simple Wondering if you can cram a few big appliances and pieces of furniture into your small living space? If you dont have room in your living room for yourself, 2 friends and a dog, you arent going to have space for a 3 piece sectional. Purchasing large items because they are on sale isnt a good idea. If you dont have the space you just dont have the space- pure and simple. Buying smaller pieces of furniture allows you to have more space in your home but still have all the conveniences. Go Light! Lots of light can make even the tightest of tenements look roomier. If you dont have room for lamps add some recessed lighting. You can also really light up a room by painting the walls in lighter colors or using lighter colors for furnishings and other decorative elements. Black is not your friend if you only have 18 sq ft in your bedroom. Light colors trick the eye and make rooms seem more open and larger than they really are. Small living spaces dont have to be delegated to the realm of closets. You can have your adorable apartment and still make it spacious with just a few tricks. Have fun decorating and keep in mind that you can have lots of space if you just added some big ideas to your palate. |
